SB1528 is a Texas State Legislature bill that states that students who meet certain criteria are eligible for state grants. Requirements are: Any person, regardless of immigration status, who: 1.) Graduated from a Texas public or accredited private high school 2.) Resided in Texas the 36 months immediately preceding the date of graduation or receipt of the diploma equivalent, 3.)Resided in Texas the 12 consecutive months preceding the census date of the academic semester in which the person enrolls in an institution is entitled to classification as a resident for tuition purposes.
Students must complete the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). A copy of this has to be submitted to the admissions office at the school to make sure they qualify for “in state tuition”. The app and instructions in Spanish and English. Citizens Bank offers loans for international student borrowers who have a creditworthy cosigner who is a US citizen or Permanent Resident.
