The JuntosProject is a platform that provides a common digital infrastructure and set of processes for a group of websites with a singular objective: connect Immigrant and refugee populations with the critical services they need.. Focused on a specific city with a high immigrant and refugee demographic, each website is managed by a local high school student with a passion for human rights and a desire to help immigrants and refugees. JuntosProject sites are more than directories or resource hubs, they deliver information about critical services to immigrants and refugees on their terms.
JuntosProject sites are equally a resource to humanitarian organizations, the population, and volunteers who manage them.
JuntosProject sites approach populations on their terms:
Native Language - Sites are translated to languages common in the region
Basic, Clean Layout - Basic technology mitigates the need for latest technology devices
Map-Based Interface - Users find resources in their own neighborhoods, minimizing unnecessary travel
No Location Services - Location services are not required to find nearby services
Accessible - All info is publicly available on the landing page with no login
Anonymous - Users are not tracked or recorded and no info is requested
Non-Commercial - Sites generate no revenue.
Trusted - JuntosProject leverages relationships with agencies and orgs to reach populations
Accurate - JuntosProject sites leverage technology to ensure current, high accuracy content
Community Sourced - Agencies and orgs are encouraged to engage and share resources.
Founder David Gibson wanted to create a changemaker outlet for other high school students passionate about human rights and a desire to help immigrants and refugees.
Too often, high school students want to help immigrant and refugee populations, but circumstances, schedules, or a perceived lack of required skills mitigate the opportunity. The JuntosProject provides a outlet for those students to volunteer and have a real and immediate impact in their community, increase their awareness of critical issues and gain experience.
